Everyone loves a superhero – righting wrongs and saving planets – and we probably all secretly want to be one. Now researchers have revealed that a handful of real life genetic superheroes are living amongst us, whose DNA provides them with resilience against serious illnesses. In fact, we may all be superheroes in our own way.

Join science writer and broadcaster Kat Arney to explore how scientists are working to unveil the identities of these everyday heroes and heroines, in the hope that they will help us to understand and fight disease. This talk is aimed at the general public – no specialist knowledge required!

Dr Kat Arney is a science writer and broadcaster whose work has featured on BBC Radio 4, the Naked Scientists, Wired, BBC Focus and more. Her first book, ‘Herding Hemingway’s Cats: Understanding how our genes work‘ is out now and her second book ‘How to Code a Human’ will be published in August.
