The death of HP Lovecraft in 1940 would have left fans of truly occult fiction short of reading material, had it not been for Manly Wade Wellman. Unlike most writers of the type, Wellman had an intimate working knowledge of occultism, from high magic to low, but specialising in the voodoo and hoodoo traditions. But he is best remembered for his knowledge of mountain lore, from both the Ozarks and the Appalachians. Tonight’s talk will be partly illustrated with excerpts from television versions of his work.

Steve Wilson has been studying and practising the rum and uncanny since the 1960s, and is the regular host of the Moot.
