Rhys Ifans and Indira Varma reflect on the challenges and rewards of playing King Berenger and Queen Marguerite in Exit the King at the National Theatre in the first of three talks about the play and its themes on Thursday 6 September.

Rhys Ifans’ work at the NT includes Protest Song, Under Milk Wood and Volpone; he is well-known as a member of Super Furry Animals, and for the films Notting Hill, Enduring Love, The Amazing Spiderman, The Boat that Rocked and more recently Snowden.

Indira Varma’s work at the NT includes Othello, Remembrance of Things Past, Ivanov, and Man and Superman. Her work in TV includes include Rome, Luther and Game of Thrones.

There are three talks happening on Thu 6 Sep:

6 – 6.45pm, Director and Adapter Patrick Marber

There will be a free archive handling session in the Olivier foyer for 30 minutes before and after this talk, with the chance to get hands-on with original designs and materials from the world premiere of Exit the King in the 1960s as well as Ionesco’s original sketches for Rhinoceros.
