Barts Health Research Evenings offer a public audience the chance to hear world-class and upcoming researchers talk about how research is contributing to the development of treatments and other improvements in quality of care and the delivery of people-centered healthcare systems.

The last in the current series will show how a discovery about the way cells eat has been used to target cancer drugs to cancer cells and explore the link between gum health and pregnancy.

We will hear from:
• Professor Joanne Martin on ‘Watching cells eat turns into a treatment for cancer: pathology in action!’ which will look at how a discovery about the way cells eat material, has been turned into a treatment that targets cancer drugs to cancer cells.
• Dr Cecilia Gonzales- Marin on ‘Gum Health and pregnancy complications’ which will give an insight into what happens in the gums during pregnancy, how can most problems be avoided, and what support is available for women to help maintain a good health of their mouth, teeth and gums. Scientific information will also be introduced that supports the belief that gum disease may cause pregnancy complications and why the evidence is still considered controversial.

Food and drink will be served at the end, which will also be an excellent opportunity to speak directly to the researchers and ask any questions you may have.
