John Higgs is an author, journalist and biographer of both The KLF – the Acid House pioneers who burned a million pounds – and Timothy Leary, the Harvard psychologist once dubbed “America’s most dangerous man” by Richard Nixon for his championing of the use of psychedelic drugs. His books explore topics like magic, ‘ideaspace’ and rave culture – finding narratives hidden away in obscure corners of cultural history, and using them to change the way we see our world.

He’s also Campfire’s upcoming guest speaker, and we can’t wait to welcome him here at The Lighthouse on Thursday 16th April, at 7pm. As well as his previous books, he’ll be discussing his next publication, Stranger Than We Can Imagine: Making Sense of the Twentieth Century. The book will see him making sense of recent history through the perspectives of the radical artists, genius scientists and all-around crazies who made it happen.

Accompanying John’s talk, his long-term collaborator Shardcore (aka Eric Drass) will be exhibiting on the ditto doors. Eric is an artist and curator who works in a range of media, from painting to generative experiments that live on the net. Exploring identity, consciousness, artificial intelligence and big data, his works are frequently reported and cited online by the likes of BoingBoing, b3ta, Imperica and Huffpost Tech.

There’ll be plenty to discuss at April’s upcoming Campfire – from the High Lords of Discord to Psychedelia’s Advocate-Priest. So make sure you get down to The Lighthouse on Thursday 16th April at 7pm – for a night celebrating an alternative view of reality.
