City Lit, the British Museum and UCL present the annual Classics Day on Saturday 29 February 2020, offering lectures exploring the interpretations and reinterpretations of Troy, through archaeology, literature and art. Why and how has ancient Troy, its legends, heroes and myths, been of such enduring resonance throughout the ages? Anyone with a love of the classics is welcome. No knowledge of Greek or Latin required.
This year’s lectures will address why and how ancient Troy, its legends, heroes and myths, have been of such enduring resonance throughout the ages. The keynote speaker will be Ian Morris, Willard Professor of Classics at Stanford University, USA. Other lecturers will include Gesine Manuwald, Professor of Latin, UCL, Hilary Williams, British Museum, and exhibition curators Alexandra Villing and Victoria Donnellan.
The event will be held at the BP Theatre at the British Museum. Registration will start at 10.00am and the event will begin at 10.30am until 16:30.
