ROUND TABLE – conversations about art and life

‘Down at Heel’ – a photographic series by John Cowpertwait

Join us for an exploration of the impact of images – what do we associate with what is presented to us, how do we read a photograph without title or context and what are the stories we discover?

Currently several exhibitions in London relate to the history and making of shoes, as well as the shoe as design object: ‘Shoes: Pleasure and Pain’ at the V&A, ‘Life on Foot’ at the Design Museum and ‘Rayne shoes for stars’ at the Fashion and Textile Museum.

John Cowpertwait captures footwear that has been left behind and is not useful anymore, we find ourselves with a record of loss and abandonment. This evocative collection of photographs can make us think that it is not the beauty of the art object but the experiences of the artist that make works of art meaningful. Perhaps a hunger for life includes coming to terms with loss and endings.

PANEL DISCUSSION WITH AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION

An elated panel and audience discussion with:

Ursula Deniflee – a psychotherapist, interviewer, Lebenskünstlerin and organiser of art related events.
She also writes and maintains a private practice.

Jenny Hobson – designer-maker of fashion accessories and costume. With a lifelong interest in all manner of materials, particularly textiles, she is currently focusing on hats.

Tim Waterman – a writer, lecturer, and landscape architect whose work focuses on landscape, urban, democratic, and food studies. He is a regular walk leader who explores the sensual city.

A unique opportunity to meet in the wood-panelled concert hall of the Club for Acts and Actors in Covent Garden, also know as the Concert Artistes Association, or in short, the CAA.
