Long-distance cyclist and touring legend Heinz Stücke reflects on fifty years on the road to celebrate the launch of his book with Brompton CEO Will Butler-Adams.

Heinz Stücke is a German traveller and long-distance touring cyclist who has pedalled more than 648,000 kilometres, most of them on an ordinary gents’ bike, and several thousand on a Brompton. The evening sees the launch of Home is Elsewhere: Heinz Stucke, 50 years around the world by bike. Meet Heinz and hear him in conversation with Brompton CEO Will Butler-Adams.

Since 1962 Heinz Stücke has visited 196 countries, got through 21 passports, and taken over 100,000 photos. Dutch travel writer Eric van den Berg dug into his vast collection of journals, photos, postcards and notes to create this new book. He also visited the now 75 year old cyclist to get an answer to that most pressing question: why? Heinz’s philosophy of ‘home is elsewhere’ comes through in the daily routines, encounters and inevitable mishaps of a lifelong adventurer, not least through the pictures he took himself.
