Plato’s vision: One reality, two worlds, three natures?

Plato’s view of the universe as “beautiful, living, intelligent and well-ordered” explored.

In the Timaeus Plato presents us with some of his most fundamental teachings – the idea that the material world is shaped by immaterial ideas, and that the manifested universe is a living thing expressing in the unfolding of time an eternal paradigm which he calls “animal itself”. We will read a series of short passages from the dialogue and discuss the possible validity of this worldview.

No previous experience of formal philosophy is required.
