London School of Hygiene & Tropical MedicineDr. Alaei and his brother Arash were scaling up HIV services in Iran in 2008 when they were arrested and imprisoned. Internationally renowned HIV physicians, they were charged with alleged conspiracy to overthrow the Iranian government because of their work with IV drug users, prisoners and other marginalised groups. A human rights campaign led by Amnesty International and Physicians for Human Rights was launched, which helped to secure their release after 2.5 and 3 years, respectively. The brothers continued promoting and protecting the health of fellow prisoners during their incarceration. Since their release, they have focused their work on health and the human rights of prisoners and marginalised populations.

Come and hear their story, hear about their current work, and be inspired.
