The public understandably fears and abhors sex offenders, but this emotionally-driven response to the problem serves to obscure clear communication of the facts. Dr Craissati will highlight ten myths that persist in the public’s mind, and will argue that an objective understanding of the nature of sexual offending can better enable society to protect itself from future victimisation.
Dr Craissati is a Consultant Clinical & Forensic Psychologist with 30 years experience in the field of sex offender treatment. She was formerly Clinical Director of an NHS forensic mental health service and is currently Director of Psychological Approaches, a not-for-profit company. She has published widely in the area of sexual offending including the book, ‘Managing High Risk Sex Offenders’.
This event is jointly hosted by the Goldsmiths’ Forensic Psychology Unit.
