Children are always the first to suffer in times of crisis. In history, very few figures have stood out as advocates for children’s rights. One of those was Doctor Janusz Korczak, a legendary child philanthropist in the inter-war period in Eastern Europe and founder of an orphanage in the Warsaw Ghetto during the Second World War.

Jim Shepard’s The Book of Aron, told through the eyes of a young boy called Aron, places Doctor Korczak at the centre of his novel.

Camila Batmanghelidjh, founder of Kids Company, is a modern-day Doctor Korczak figure, who has helped countless children escape violent and impoverished backgrounds. Join Jim Shepard and Camila Batmanghelidjh for a fascinating discussion about children’s rights and the important role played by people like Doctor Janusz Korczak in alleviating the suffering of children.
